The Carlu, Toronto

Very proud to announce my participation in Art Gems Auction 2024! Art Gems Auction is the annual fundraising art auction in support of Creative Works Studio. Since 2007, your generosity and support has enabled Art Gems to raise nearly $2,000,000 for this life-changing mental health program in downtown Toronto. Together we are making positive change in the lives of the many Studio members, who, through this rehabilitative therapeutic program, experience healing, increased self-esteem and the return of important life skills through their participation in the arts.

Over 50 works of art will be offered by Live and Silent Auction, created by a diversity of professional artists from across Canada. Thrilled to be a participating as an independent artist!

Art Gems Auction 2024 will be taking place at the Carlu, Toronto, this April!! Get your tickets now: https://artgems.ca/

What Remains

September 2023
Visionary Art Collective, Brooklyn

What Remains is a virtual group exhibition providing an in-depth look at our personal and creative growth since the onset of the pandemic.

In the face of unprecedented challenges brought by the global pandemic, artists have emerged as resilient and resourceful champions of creativity. Confronted with isolation and uncertainty, they turned their homes into studios, their struggles into inspiration, and their solitude into powerful narratives, creating pieces that resonated deeply with global audiences.

This period tested artists’ adaptability, sparking a wave of innovative techniques and forms of expression. With the help of technology, art has become more accessible than ever before and artists have become beacons of hope, using their craft to shed light on social issues, amplify underrepresented voices, and offer solace to those grappling with the emotional toll of the pandemic.

Artists’ unwavering dedication to their practice demonstrated that even in the darkest of times, art remains an essential source of healing, inspiration, and connection for all.  In the "What Remains" group exhibition, artists showcase their adaptability, and a continued commitment to using their creativity as a means of expression, connection, and positive change in the world.

Beginning in October of 2019, Akin launched its second year of hosting artists-in-residence at 158 Sterling Road. Working across a wide range of disciplines and at their own pace, the material realities of COVID-19 worked to draw attention to time as an unpredictable material that brings about change or taunts us with the unknown. Dedicated to sharing and growing their practice, the work on display represents some of the artists who chose to retain their studios with AKIN by working in intervals and following physical distancing protocols to thwart the risks of co-working spaces and shared public facilities.

Social distancing limits will be in effect, with hand sanitizer available. Please wear a mask.

Canada's Landscape Artist of the Year
Wildcard Artist

Airing now on CBC: I'm on TV!!! 📺🤗 I was recruited for Landscape Artist of the Year Canada, which is hilarious since I'm an abstract painter 😂 so I asked if I could bring the amazing Raoul Olou to wildcard with me... We are "Wildcard Artists" in Episode 1 of the Makeful show, airing now!

Here's the concept: Six of the country’s top artists have just four hours to complete a landscape masterpiece. Each week, it’s a new group of artists in a new location, all vying to make it to the final. Who thought watching paint dry could be this fun?

Spoiler alert - I'm still not a landscape artist... But we had the best time filming, laughing all day!!! Check my insta for more pics from the taping, and I hope you enjoy the show.

New Measures
Oct 1-7th 2020
Hours: 11-1pm and 3-6pm

Featured Artists: Chris Gardiner, Dalia Hassan, Dorota Dziong, Felicia Cirstea, Franziska Barczyk, Hamid Mohammadi, Jill Price, Jihun Lee, Linds Miyo

NEW MEASURES:
A collection of new works created under different circumstances.

Beginning in October of 2019, the Akin Studio artist residency entered its second year of successfully hosting a number of artists working across a wide range of disciplines. Hit by the material realities of COVID 19 like all other art organizations and institutional facilities, AKIN and the artists who remained at 158 Sterling Rd. needed to take new measures to not only remain safe while working in the studios and forge forward with their creative practice, but also needed to devise different ways of measuring productivity and success while coexisting and working with others as exhibition opportunities, teaching engagements and curatorial projects were all placed on hold. As seen by the work, the ever shifting parameters of a global pandemic resulted in some artists turning inwards, others turning to the empty streets for inspiration and some just needing to find meaning in play. Whether surreal or abstract, figurative or architectural, each artist has either intentionally or subconsciously captured different aspects of what it means to live in a time where everything we once took for granted has drastically changed or been unmade due to the dangerous realities of the once unreal.

We hope that all of you who visit and engage with the work will embrace the new measures instituted by AKIN to help keep everyone safe.

Exhibition runs from December 6th 2019 – December 31st 2019

Gallery hours: Thursday - Sunday: 2-7pm
Monday-Wednesday: Closed

The Salon of Inclusiveness is a playful and positive take on the Salon des Refusés. In 1863 two thirds of paintings submitted for the Paris Salon were refused by the conservative French Academy. Rejected work included that by artists such as Courbet, Édouard Manet, Camille Pissaro and Johan Jongkind, whose work didn’t align with traditional tastes. So many artists protested this vast rejection, that a new exhibition was organized – the ‘Salon des
Refusés’, held in another part of the Palais de Industrias. The attention from this event undermined the French Academy and served to legitimize the emerging forms of avant-garde art. Excited to have two pieces included in this show!

Akin's Annual

In 2019, Akin collaborated with some amazing partners, said goodbye to one of our most central locations, opened a new studio, our first location outside of Toronto (Akin Lakeshore), turned 11 years old, and welcomed many more artists to the studio community.

More details to come!

Linds Miyo + Partial.Gallery

As the sole Canadian exhibitor (and de facto ambassador of Toronto’s emerging arts scene) at Daegu, the team at Partial considered a few factors when selecting works to showcase: a variation of artistic styles and voice, a diverse backgrounds of artists, and of course, artistic talent and collectibility. Six artworks were chosen to be flown to Korea for display, with another twenty artworks to be featured by digital showcase!! I am very excited to announce that my painting "A Line Can Become A Window (#2) will be included in the digital showcase presented by Partial Gallery at Daegu Art Fair.
